Returning from the Leopard Trail

and so we walked
with sacred intent
on sacred ground
in gentling sunshine
on ancient rocks

we walked with the sacred drumbeat in our hearts
through portals and gorges
over ridges and mountain tops
through riverbeds and
in the quiet of kloof

the great mother olifant
from the ancient valley where they once walked
sensing their fear, their confusion
calls to her children from afar,
she sings to her young ones across the ages
so they know they are remembered in the great wheel of life

deep winter nights on a new moon in cancer
sacred portal for soul renewal
we rest in the quietude of the stars talking above
song of cosmos audible in ancient rock
twinkle reflected in the streams below

a kloof is a pharmacy
full of goodness of plants
primordial consciousness
patient teachers

leopard gazes back from the mouth of the river
eyes piercing through the night
sending breath and jolts of energy through body and mind,
alive!
a remembrance of older times
when we were prey

how do you carry the wild in you?
how do you remember, recall what life is about?

asking for guidance as I return
from touching another time
an older me, a me that was an us, across eons,
surviving, persevering, learning, adapting

we need one another
each holding a piece of the puzzle
each with a unique sensory perceiving
receiving another angle of the world

we need one another
like seed curled up in the depth of bud
awaiting blossoming
we have been biding our time

we are called to remember what we once knew
what earth’s indigenous children have never forgotten
we are one with her
we are of earth mother
she birthed us in sacred union with sky father
we are always supported and loved
right here
right now
with a treasure bag of cellular memory
primordial call to healing and restoring harmony:
recall remember recalibrate!
